Welcome to Wildflower Creative Dance Co.

Preschool through early elementary dancers are beautifully nurtured in The Dance Garden with Miss Jasmine. A need to facilitate further growth for teens inspired Wildflower Creative Dance Co. In 2023, WCDC became the next step for middle and high school dancers in continuing their creative dance journey.

Wildflowers are strong, unique, and thrive organically. They adapt to grow in different environments. The teen years are brief but impactful. Skills taught through creative dance provide a sturdy leaping off point so dancers can bloom as confident, caring,

curious, and contributing people wherever they land.

This company will allow dancers to continue to build their own movement vocabulary as well as dance technique. Positivity and creativity are essential to building a safe space for teens and are a main focus of each class. Creative dance students will connect with the larger dance community by sharing their own choreography, attending workshops, performing and attending local dance shows. Students will also learn about dance history and modern dance pioneers.

Class

Class will be held on Wednesdays from 2:45-4:10 pm at The Dance Garden studio. Classes typically begin with a "free dance" followed by a more intense warm-up; focusing on building strength, endurance, and flexibility. Center floor work and "across the floor" involve dance technique that builds in pattern length, repetitions, and skill level. Variations in combinations using Time, Space, and Energy offer constant challenges and rewards for dancers. Dancers learn choreography as well as improvisation techniques. The teacher works as facilitator for encouraging and directing the creative movement of each dancer and the class as a whole. Imagery, literature, props, objects and art are all mediums for movement inspiration.

Building a dance community

Each spring we will join The Dance Garden for a spring recital. Our recitals will follow a storyline or theme, and dancers will play an integral part in the choreography and development of their class dance.

In addition, company members are encouraged to attend the daCi Utah Day of Dance. Other enrichment opportunities may include Ring Around the Rose, and other dance performances or workshops. We are excited to add other opportunities for dance community participation and performance in the coming years.

Mindset

It is a top priority that WCDC remains a safe space for teens. An open-mind is critical for class discussions and improvisation. Sharing ideas and movement can only happen when teens feel safe. It is important for dancers to understand that the goal is improvement and exploration, not perfection. Creation is a process of discovery! Encouragement for others and positivity for self makes a huge difference in the depth of creation that can be achieved in class.

Thank you for your support in helping dance be a positive, safe, and enriching experience for everyone!
