Creative Movement Workshop Series at Challenger Basic School

The past six weeks at Challenger Basic School have been fantastic! The boys and girls I have been working with range in age from kindergarten to third grade. They had fun using their bodies to express what was happening in their imaginations.

We have been exploring creative movement with Dr. Seuss, who is a marvel in the literary sense and provides a very accessible road to the imagination for dancers. We did mirroring activities with partners when we discussed shapes. We created a lion with 22 feet when we ran the zoo. We even danced with a parachute and drew our own creatures when we ran the circus.

These kiddos are so smart and creative, they are brave too. I came to the administration and parents with the idea of offering a workshop and they were willing to go for it. Trying something new takes an adventurous spirit and a lot courage, but it always helps us grow. The freedom and joy that kids feel when expressing themselves through dance is a special sort of magic!

Thank you CBS students, parents, and faculty! I look forward to dancing with these students again, CBS has been a delight to work with!
